Picking Economy - Sweep Picking 1
| |||||||
The letters mark the spots of the 7 note scale for this exercise.
| |||||||
Usually the first lesson of gaining speed when soloing is to use
| |||||||
alternate picking. However, that will slow you for this excerise.
| |||||||
5th fret | 7th fret | 9th fret | |||||
thinnest string | X | Z | U | W | |||
Y | T | V | H | ||||
thickest string | |||||||
First, I do recommend starting with alternate picking anyway.
| |||||||
Then move on to sweeps:
| |||||||
Play string 5 to 6 from Y to X at the fifth fret using a single down stroke.
| |||||||
Play string 5 to 6 to 5 from Y to X to Y using 2 strokes
| |||||||
down on Y to X, and then an upstroke back to Y.
| |||||||
Now start to use these patterns in parts while soloing in the larger pattern.
| |||||||
The larger pattern is the one marked on the fretboard image.
| |||||||
For instance, Y to X to Y, and then T to Z then V to U to V as a lick.
