1. First, I should say that I have small hands.
| ||||
2. These hands have been injured many times trying to be the best guitarist.
| ||||
3. This use of the penatonic scale is useful for everyone, especially those with small hands.
| ||||
Usually on day 1 when studying a pentatonic scale this shape is given.
| ||||
12th fret | 15th fret | |||
fattest string | Root (E) | G
A | B | |||
D | Root (E) | |||
G | A | |||
B | D | |||
thinnest string | Root (E) | G
This is the Eminor pentatonic scale.
| ||||
I still agree that it should be shown first to help students learn the pattern.
| ||||
It is not my favorite way of using this scale, as it is hard to bend notes with one's pinky.
| ||||
Bending notes is essential because played by itself, it seems to need spice.
| ||||
The first position of the Aminor pentatonic is quite a bit more difficult to play.
| ||||
This is because the frets are even further apart.
| ||||
5th fret | 7th fret | |||
fattest string | root (A) | C
D | E | |||
G | root (A) | |||
C | D | |||
E | G | |||
thinnest string | root (A) | C |
This version of the Eminor pentatonic scale is easier.

The notes in red are for another time. Know that they are there though.
| ||||||||||
Though sometimes there are 3 notes per string, I recommend use slides instead of three fingers.
| ||||||||||
Play everything with your ring and index fingers, except use your middle or ring at the blue B.
| ||||||||||
Slide up to the highest or lowest pitched B note with your ring finger.
| ||||||||||
It is also a good idea to slide from the lowest pitched D note to the E, which suggests the root is E.
| ||||||||||
The same for the same pattern, but Aminor pentatonic
